The 2024 Convention will take place at Newport Cathedral (St Woolos) on Saturday November 2nd from 10am until 4pm. Speakers include Julie Nicholas on the successful completion of the Lady Rhondda statue campaign; Nia Griffiths and Nick Venti will discuss the 1839 Chartist riots in Llanidloes; Matthew Roberts on heritage politics and memories of Chartism in Wales 1918-2020; Catherine Howe will describe the remarkable career of Feargus O'Connor; Ray Stroud will tell the amazing story behind one of the highlights of the Newport Museum Chartist collection, the Thomas Phillips subscriber plate; and Duncan Hamilton will talk about the portrayal of the Newport Rising on the stage. There will be a poetry reading by Jonathan Edwards, and a variety of stalls. Tickets costing £15.00 including lunch, tea and coffee are available from www.newportrising.co.uk The Convention will be followed by the annual torchlit march from Belle Vue Park to the Westgate.
