Annual Newport Chartist Convention, Saturday November 4th 2023

The 2023 Convention will take place at Newport Cathedral (St Woolos) on Saturday November 4th from 10am until 4pm. Speakers include Steve Martin on Chartism and Abolition; Katrina Navickas on digital mapping and Chartism; Steve Poole and Roger Ball giving an update on the Bristol Riot 1831 project and Newport's involvement in those events; and Ray Stroud and David Osmond on some highlights of Representing the Rising, a major new exhibition at Newport Art Gallery. There will be a musical contribution from Kevin Brennan MP and Jon Langford, and a variety of stalls. Tickets costing £15.00 including lunch, tea and coffee are available from www.newportrising.co.uk The Convention will be followed by the annual commemoration ceremony at the Chartist memorial stone in St Woolos churchyard, and then by the torchlit march from Belle Vue Park to the Westgate.
